Water Damage Insurance Claim Help in Houston
Burst pipe, slab leak, AC overflow or storm water? The claim goes smoother when the damage is documented before it’s torn out. Here’s what to do, and how an independent repair estimate helps.

Water damage insurance claim tips
Stop the water and photograph everything before cleanup. Save damaged materials or samples if you can. Keep receipts for mitigation, hotel and emergency repairs. Write down the date the leak started and when you found it. Report the claim promptly.
The water damage claim process, step by step
Report the loss, start mitigation (drying), the adjuster inspects, the insurer writes its estimate, then repairs begin. The gap most homeowners hit is between the adjuster’s estimate and what the rebuild actually takes: flooring, cabinets, drywall, paint, baseboard and contents.
Water damage claim list: what to document
Each affected room, flooring type, wall and ceiling damage, cabinets and countertops, doors and trim, insulation, contents, moisture readings from the mitigation company and photos of the source.
How I help
I walk the property, scan it with Matterport and write an itemized Xactimate rebuild estimate you can share with your insurer or contractor. See also water damage estimates and slab leak estimates.
Independent, not a public adjuster
I’m an independent Xactimate estimator, not a public adjuster. I don’t negotiate with your insurance company, represent you on the claim or promise any change in what it pays. I document the damage and write an itemized repair estimate you can share. This isn’t legal advice; for representation, contact a licensed public adjuster or an attorney.
Questions
Should I get an estimate before mitigation is done?
Call as early as you can. I can document conditions during or after drying.
Do you handle my claim for me?
No. I’m not a public adjuster. I document and estimate the repair; you or your representative handle the claim.
