Tree Fell on Your House? Houston Repair Estimates
Beryl in 2024 and the 2024 derecho put trees through roofs all over Houston. I’m Benny Mancillas, an independent Xactimate estimator. Once the tree is off and the house is safe, I walk it and write a detailed repair estimate for everything the tree damaged.
What a tree-damage estimate includes
Roof covering, underlayment and decking. Rafters, trusses and ceiling joists where damage is visible, with any engineer recommendations noted. Gutters, fascia, soffit and siding. Inside: ceilings, insulation, walls, flooring and anything water reached before the roof was tarped. Fences, patio covers and detached structures get their own sections.
What I don’t write
Tree removal and debris haul-off are a tree service’s work; I note them separately. Structural engineering calls are an engineer’s. I write the repair scope for the building.
Before I come out
Get the tree off and the roof tarped. Take photos of the tree on the house before it’s removed; those photos help explain the damage later.
My role
I’m an independent estimator, not a public adjuster or insurance adjuster. I don’t negotiate with insurance companies, interpret coverage or promise what a claim will pay. I document the damage and write the repair scope.

Can you see framing damage?
I document what I can see from the attic and from openings. Hidden damage is noted as something to confirm when the roof is opened.
Are you a public adjuster?
No. I’m an independent estimator. I write the repair estimate; I don’t represent you with the insurance company, negotiate the claim or promise a result.
